Why should fans never see Michael Scott’s mother in the office?

In Season 5, Michael and Holly break up after being transferred to another Dunder Mifflin location. But as anyone who has seen “The Office” can attest, Michael is not the one who makes it easy to collapse. When he returns to Scranton in the “Customer Survey,” he tells his colleagues that he is engaged, but no one believes him. Employees encourage him to call his mother to tell her the “good news” that Michael does. Over the phone, you can faintly hear Michael’s mother say, “No, you are not,” after Michael says he’s engaged. It’s funny because it shows that this is not the first time that Michael pretended to be engaged, and the voice on the other side of the phone is none other than June Squibb.

The actor was nominated for an Oscar for his work in 2013’s “Nebraska” and has appeared in a cavalcade of television series, including “Shameless,” “Modern Family” and “Good Girls.” Without a doubt, a physical presence in the “office” would have been a loving treat for fans. Squibb certainly has plenty of experience in comedic roles, so she could definitely keep up with the rest of the cast.

No one affiliated with “The Office” or Squibb himself has ever specified why Michael’s mother never comes in person throughout the show. Maybe like everyone else, she enjoys keeping her place away from her son. But if there is ever a reunion for the “Office”, we would very much like to see her show up in the flesh.
