Why did HBO cancel Lovecraft Country?

Ultimately, “Lovecraft Country” is based on a single book, so there is no more source material burning another season. However, that hasn’t stopped the recent miniseries before – just look at the renewed “The Flight Attendant” and “Big Little Lies” – so showrunner Misha Green was working on a season 2 pitch for HBO, Deadline reported.

Despite this, HBO still will not develop another season. The network did not give an explicit reason, but said: “We are grateful for the dedication and artistry from the talented cast and crew and to Misha Green who made this groundbreaking series. And to the fans, thank you for joining us this journey.”

Following the announcement, Green stepped up Twitter to say, “Wish we could have brought you #LovecraftCountry: Dominance. Thanks to everyone who watched and engaged.” She included a picture of her notes for season 2, depicting a newly imagined United States as the sovereign states of America titled “The Next Generation.” Unfortunately, her vision for the second season does not come to the screen.
