London, June 27 (IANS) American Venus Williams will partner with Australian Nick Kyrgios to play the mixed doubles at Wimbledon, which starts on Monday.
The 41-year-old Venus wins 13 Grand Slam titles in singles, doubles and mixed, and wins five Wimbledon singles titles, with the last in 2008.
If the Venus-Kyrgios pair clicks on Wimbledon this year, it will be after a gap of 23 years that the American lifts the mixed double trophy after winning the last of her two Grand Slam titles at the event at the 1998 French Open.
Venus’s previous best in mixed doubles at Wimbledon has been second in 2006.
The 26-year-old Kyrgios, on the other hand, has one of the biggest appearances on the ATP Tour, and the longest he has gone to Wimbledon secures a final eight berth in 2014.
Four years ago, when Venus was asked who her dream mixed double partner would be, he had said, “I do not know, I think it would be fun to play with Nick Kyrgios.”
Kyrgios most recently competed in mixed doubles with American Amanda Anisimova at last year’s Australian Open and before that with Desirae Krawczyk (US) at Wimbledon in 2019.
