Let’s face it: With the series ’abundance (especially franchise ones) streaming brand new content regularly, even an established character like Sam Wilson needs to quickly grab an audience’s attention. Therefore, the first 10 minutes – for the second – of the first episode of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” are nothing more than Sam taking on a group of hijackers. The episode in the episode includes Sam and the hijackers who jump out of a plane and fight each other in the air.
The scenes serve as a way to grab the audience and keep their interest, and much of it is actually practical effects. In an interview with Deadline, lead stunt coordinator Hank Amos broke down the entire stage.
“I had the Red Bull Air Force, the largest pilot suits on the planet on the planet, working with us, and I was just blown away,” Amos revealed. “They fly 140 miles an hour and they’re six inches apart. They were so accurate and it was just an amazing experience.” You heard it right: the hijackers shoot cannons at Sam, turn around and try to escape – all this is convenient.
While there was some thread work and CGI was used as the backdrop for the shots, everything else boiled down to the artists’ skills and the confidence of the Disney teams. “I’m taking my hat off to Marvel,” Amos said. “I don’t even think I’ve ever seen such a wingsuit sequence in a big feature film. It was massive, and those are the lengths Marvel is willing to go to, to make these shows spectacular.”
The entire first season of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” is streaming on Disney + now.
