Of all the new episode titles for “The Walking Dead” season 11A, the most deceptive is clearly the first two. The two-part premiere titled “Acheron” thankfully has some episode descriptions that provide a much-needed context.
According to descriptions (via AMC), the first episodes of the premiere see Maggie (Lauren Cohan) lead Alexandrians on a high-risk reward mission to ensure a much-needed supply of food to society. The journey takes the group into a subway tunnel, an option we’ve already seen in the teaser images, and it sounds like things are getting pretty hairy down there. Given Acheron, the name of one of the rivers that was considered an entrance to the underworld in Greek mythology (via Pantheon.org), we would guess that this particular trip underground will be very sensitive.
The episode descriptions suggest that the Reapers, the extremely dangerous group we were briefly introduced to in the season 10C premiere of “Home Sweet Home,” are going to show up. What’s more, the description of “Acheron: Part II” creates the aftermath of Ezekiel (Khary Payton), Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura), Eugene (Josh McDermitt) and Princess (Paola Lázaro), rounded off by Commonwealth soldiers.
As for the rest of the episode titles, “Hunted” sounds like it could refer to Reapers, while “On the Inside” seems to involve someone infiltrating the Commonwealth. However, we will have to wait until the August 22 premiere of “The Walking Dead” season 11A to find out.
