Kingston, August 16 (IANS) Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman on Monday praised the West Indies for their nail-biting victory over Pakistan at Sabina Park. Laxman was impressed with senior pacer Kemar Roach and teenage fast bowler Jayden Seales, who played a major role in sealing the win for the West Indies.
“What an incredible Test Match victory from the West Indies at Sabina Park. The kind of victories you cherish in life. Great to see the way they have recorded some of their recent test victories. Roach was brilliant and what an impressive future lies ahead for the young Jayden Seales, ”Laxman wrote on Twitter.
Jayden Seales lowered his maiden five-wicket move in Test cricket to get out of Pakistan for just 203. Finishing with 5/55, he also became the youngest bowler in the Caribbean to pick up a five-wicket move in test cricket on 19 years and 338 days.
After chasing 168, the West Indies were in early trouble at 38/3. A stand of 68 races between Jermaine Blackwood and Roston Chase stabilized things.
But a collapse triggered by Faheem Ashraf and Hasan Ali meant the West Indies were in splinters at 142/8. Roach kept his nerves and took the West Indies home with 30 unbeaten 30 of 52 balls with Seales at a non-striking end.
The West Indies have now taken a 1-0 lead in the Test series with two matches. They now sit at the top of the World Test Championship table with 12 points. The second test between the two teams begins on August 20 in Sabina Park.
