Mumbai, June 21 (IANS) Indian-American rapper Raja Kumari released his latest track “The Rani Cypher” on Monday to mark World Music Day.
The track highlights the theme of female power with appearances by female emcees Dee MC, Siri and Meba Ofilia.
“When I entered the Indian rap scene in 2016, it was rare to see a woman on stage and even rarer to hear a woman on the microphone. I decided early on to use my influence to create a platform for female artists and commercials to demand a space that could be safe for all of us, ”claimed Raja Kumari or Svetha Rao.
She added: “It is so exciting to play Meba Ofilia, Dee MC and Siri on this female rap cypher out of India. From start to finish, working at Rani Cypher has been a hands-on experience and I am grateful to have worked with such a talented female-led team. ”
Siri said, “(I am) So hyped for this one! A much needed collaboration for the stage. The recording was super fun – we were all in our element and exchanged positive energy. ”
Dee MC said: “Super shocked to have worked with these amazing and talented ladies on ‘Rani Cypher’. This was definitely in work for a while and I’m so glad it finally happened. It is safe to say that it sets a benchmark for all future female collaborations. ”
Meba Ofilia said: “I am nervous, but still very excited! It is honored that I was to be a part of this unique project. Definitely a first time for me where I sat in a studio with artists from different parts of India (and the world!) To record a song. Colorless campaign to create a world where people look beyond their differences while pursuing global unity. ”
