India A formidable and really good site: Kane Williamson

Auckland, June 29 (IANS) New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson called India a “formidable” and a “really big side” and that the black caps were “proud to win” against Virat Kohli-led side in the World Cup Championship final (WTC) in Southampton recently.

New Zealand won the rainy summit match against India by eight wickets to win the winning purse of Rs 12 crore along with an ICC Test Championship Mace.

In sports, when you have tournaments and finals, these are set up in a way that provides excitement and opportunity in a one-off game. It never really tells the whole picture. As we know, this Indian team is a formidable side. They are really a good side, ”Williamson told India Today on Monday.

“We are proud to have won this match, but it does not take away from the quality that India had in their team, how strong they are year after year. I have absolutely no doubt that they will win lots, much more. ”

Williamson employed the tall paceman Kyle Jamieson at the start of the reserve on the sixth day of the test, and it turned out to be the New Zealand skipper’s battle, after the bowler accounted for both night beaters Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli to leave India in grim tribulation in the second lap.

Williamson said that India also had good depth in their bowling department and that their tempo attack was “relentless”.
