Globe has invested more than P63 million in learning and developing its over 8,000 employees through Globe University. Of the total Learning & Development budget, the company invested approximately P8.3 million in Newton, an online learning platform that gives employees access to a wide range of eCourses that they can take at their own pace and time to support their professional development.
Newton 2.0 is available through LinkedIn Learning, which includes 8,000 courses, more than doubling the previous version, which previously offered 3,800. The newly upgraded Newton is now available to all employees from June 2021.
Globe University, the company’s educational arm, focuses on creating and delivering collaborative and diverse learning experiences to enhance all of Ka-Globe’s opportunities. Learning and development programs help to upgrade the workforce. Well-equipped and happy employees provide better customer service, apart from increasing their overall performance while working remotely.
“Our employees are one of the main reasons why we thrive in the business. Globe makes conscious efforts to take good care of its employees by enabling them to develop their skills and hone their talents at work. It is our hope that by activating and taking care of our employees, they can be continuously inspired to provide the best service and care to our customers, ”says Renato Jiao, Globe Chief Human Resource Officer.
“Thanks to Newton! Congratulations to you and the entire GU team on opening up a whole new world of learning opportunities with Newton! Apart from the teaching sessions, I am ecstatic with the audio courses – New Learning Spotify, and that I can directly post certificates in my LinkedIn profile, ”says Miles Valencia, a Globe employee.
“Newton 2.0 is definitely an upgrade! The “Netflix-like” recommendation is also perfect. It’s so convenient to learn all the time as the relevant topics are recommended based on my previous choices, ”said Suzy Urbano, a Globe employee
Another highlight of Globe’s learning and development opportunities is that it facilitated the implementation of courses in business operations, customer service, data and digital transformation, management, leadership, sales and marketing and productivity tools of 5,906 employees or 75% of Globe’s employee base.
“I would say that Newton 2.0 has taken learning to another level. With more than 8,000 courses to choose from, it has made learning more dynamic, accessible and convenient. Globe University has always worked with us to ensure that everyone has easily accessible learning resources so that we can develop or upgrade critical competencies and skills we need in our work. Newton 2.0 is empowering and we are grateful that Globe has given us this tool. It really serves its purpose — enables us to learn new things so we can help our business create a Globe of Good, ”said Oz Yu, another Ka-Globe.
When the pandemic hit in 2020, Globe’s training approach shifted to 100% digital learning. As part of this shift, Globe University launched Newton, a digital online learning platform for Globe employees. Digital learning gave Globe the opportunity to train 97% of its staff in 2020 against 71% in 2019, as the training method was largely face-to-face and personal teaching in the classroom. 2020 also saw a big jump in the inclusion of digital learning of 89% against 19% in 2019.
Globe is constantly working to help employees harmonize work and personal lives as part of its purpose of treating people properly. This is also in support of 10 UN Sustainable Development Goals, in particular UN SDG 4 on high-quality inclusive and equitable education; and UN Objective 8 to promote sustainable, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
