Amsterdam, 27 June (IANS) Denmark beat Wales 4-0 to become the first team to take part in the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 football.
Kesper Dolberg (27th minute, 48th minute), Joakim Maehle (88th) and Martin Braithwaite (90 + 4.) were the goal scorers in a competition that became one-sided as the game progressed.
Wales, who fielded the playing XI that had beaten Turkey in the league phase, started with confidence but could not build on that.
Gareth Bale was again the star on the Welsh side. He hit a low shot early, which went wide. He then revealed Aaron Ramsey, but the Juventus player saw his efforts blocked by a well-drilled Danish defense.
Dolberg opened the scoring in the 27th minute before doubling the lead three minutes into the second half.
Maehle scored the third for the Danes towards the end of the game out of a stinging shot, and it looked like 3-0 would be the last result line.
